After 10 years with the University of Manitoba's Department of Civil Engineering as a professor, he embarked on a 42-year career in consulting engineering. He travelled the world, working in all seven continents including the Antarctic and our North. He specialized in winter roads and ice which led to him being sought out by the British Antarctic Survey to design and oversee the construction of the runway at Rothera Point, Adelaide Island, Antarctica. Previously, the only way in was by BAS ship, a harrowing experience he much enjoyed.
Ken worked at five Canadian based firms as the lead on projects that took him to all seven continents on environmental engineering and his specialty, cold regions engineering on roads and pipeline work pads made from snow and/or ice.

His signature project was the design and onsite administration of an airport runway and support facilities for the British Antarctic Survey for its research station at Rothera Point, Adelaide Island, Antarctica.  Previously, the only way in was by BAS ship, a harrowing experience he much enjoyed. The project was completed in 1990 by Pelly Construction Ltd. out of Whitehorse, YT.
