	Jack Hoogstraten lectured, developed and oversaw construction of several buildings on the campus at the University of Manitoba. He retired as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and was also a two-time past president of APEM (now EGM). 	In 1965 and 1966 Hoogstraten was Chief Advisor to the Government of Thailand on the construction of their new University of the Northeast. Seven University of Manitoba staff members and their families, including four from the Engineering Faculty, were in Thailand from September 1965 to April 1966 assisting in this program. Dean Hoogstraten spent some 3 months in Thailand, the first trip in November and December 1964, and the second in February and March of 1966. 	Hoogstraten was on several boards in Winnipeg including; the Winnipeg General Hospital, Manitoba Hydro, Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
